Dr. Manohar Desai
B.F.A. in Applied Art, Art Teachers Diploma, Diploma in Art Education from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya,
Pune. B.F.A. in Fine Art from Raheja School of Art, Mumbai. Masters in Indology from Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth and M.F.A. Applied Art from V.I.T. Institute, Pune.
He has completed his Ph. D in Devanagri Script from one of the prime Universities of India – Deccan College University, Pune under the guidance of Late. Prof. Mukund Gokhale and Dr. Abhijeet Dandekar.
His college mentors helped him channelize his teaching skills and motivated him to contribute in academic field.
Currently he is working as ‘Head of the Dept. Communication Design- Graphic Design in Symbiosis Inst. of Design, Pune.
He is very popular among his students due his teaching methodology. He motivates students to achieve their best through practice.
He is known Nationally and Internationally for the application of Calligraphy on canvas in his paintings.
He treats letter as a form in his compositions. His mastery over vibrant and energetic colours
in his compositions are highly appreciated by many experts on the International platform.
He conducts many workshops in various parts of the country and is popular for his way of teaching calligraphy.
10 of his calligraphic paintings are a part of the collection at the International Calligraphy Museum, Moscow, Russia.
He has participated in more than 15 solo and 32 group shows at many places within
India and abroad; like Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, St. Johans University Hall, Art hub in Dubai as well as in Russia.
His expertise in multiple areas of Graphic Design has helped him teach many courses in
academics.
According to Dr. Desai, Drawing and sketching are very important in order to improve the understanding of proportion and anatomy. He applies the same knowledge in Typography and Calligraphy and makes it easy for students to understand. His experience in the area of environmental graphic design has added great value for students in finding projects.
The signage system along with the in- depth study and aspects he possesses helps him make the course enriching.
He offers minute details in Information System Design and User Interface Graphics and mold minds of his students for the UI/UX industry as well.
